Hotels at deep creek lake md11/7/2023 ![]() ![]() This has to be one of the most disappointing places we have ever stayed in. It was a trip my husband and I took for our birthdays and we will NEVER stay here again. I would not recommend anyone stay here unless you want a very old establishment with VERY unfriendly staff. We have contacted management 3 times due to issues with TV, non working fireplace, etc. We stayed at the Will O' the Wisp and selected it because it had good reviews, BAD IDEA!!! The room is very out dated. I’m not sure we would stay there again, but other options for short term stays are limited at this popular lake.… I did not leave a review there because I didn’t want to be the one to break their streak of perfect reviews. Beware, the property website has nothing but 5-star ratings, which seems high to me for this older property. Creepy! There are 2 nice restaurants on the property. The worst thing was the late night/early morning creatures scampering/scratching/thumping around overhead on the loft roof. The spiral staircase was a little awkward, though I liked that the loft had a divider wall. The newer vanity in the bathroom was cute, but the brown tile and tub must have been from the 70s. The décor was neutral, but chairs & sofa were sagging. The kitchen was cute with dark cabinets, but had beat up base boards and laminate countertops with the end cap broken off. The room smelled kind of odd, I think that came from the hot water heater in the hall closet. The studio was updated … maybe 10 years or more ago. The studio was cute for 2, it would have been cramped for 4. I didn’t know this place was so old! The room on the 7th floor had a great view of the lake. The room doors were old too, though they had been updated with keyless entries. Yuck! I thought the pool and hot tub from the 70s were cute. The windows were at eye level and are covered with spider webs and tree debris. ![]() The carpet in the halls is dark and dated. You had to use a key to get from the outside into the narrow inner hallways, I guess it’s a good security measure to keep outsiders out, but it’s kind of creepy that it is needed. Then, when I walked down the hall to the elevator and beyond, I worried even more. When I went down the steps to the dark old fashion lobby, I was worried. Hubby & I went for an extended weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Still a beloved place for us, but not aging well. Room rates have shot way up in recent years but the building upkeep hasn't kept pace. ![]() They may have been "prestige condominiums" in their heyday, but now it's false advertising. It's steps away from some of the best ice cream in the multiverse (Lakeside Creamery). The front desk staff are helpful, the staff we encountered were all pleasant and helpful. There's another new restaurant on property (Firewater's) that we didn't make it to, but the building is gorgeous. The updated on-site restaurant (Ace's Run) is surprisingly good (but hella pricey). The pool and hot tubs are dated but charming. The automatic deadbolt on the front door worked sometimes, but not always. ![]() The toilet paper holder fell off the wall. Sticky decals on the tub floor were dated and felt dirty. The rooms vary - many have been updated, but the multi-level unit we stayed on still had very old bathrooms that felt sad and run-down. The common areas are dark and musty, the carpets worn, the huge picture windows covered with webs and dirt. The location on the lake is unbeatable, but the building is really showing its age. I've been going here with family for over 30 years.
